front and rear axle set up out of a Jeep grand waggie work on a YJ?
I was just toying with something.. what year etc?
I want the hummer tires like polordoggie has and was thinking i have a dana 44 in the back yard out of a grand waggie.
Could I get a front axle and put them in?
How difficult what to worry about etc.
not sure ill do it but just looking at ideas. _________________ 1992 Jeep Wranlger Work in progress

They are wider than stock YJ axles. May have to modify your spring mounts to line up with the axle perches. Might be more trouble than it's worth for just the little extra width. Also they are a six lug pattern, so for rims you'll have to do something. And they are also a semi float rear, if you're going to bigger axles, might as well get a full float 60 rear and 44 front from a 3/4 ton truck, kind of like Alex did with his YJ. We put those in fairly easy. But we did have to make some mounts to outboard his leafs to line up with the full width axles. Just a matter of what all you want to do and what you're willing to spend on the project. But he ran a set of 37" boggers on those with just a SOA with 1.5" springs and a 3" BL and had plenty of room to clear them. _________________ '73 CJ5/7 project with lots of mods - under construction

Heres a few things to think about...
Waggy axles are geared terrible, so both axles would need to be regeared.(Stock=2.73 to 3.31)
They are almost always open, so now you need lockers.
Bolt pattern is different, so now you need rims.
Steering linkages/pitman arm has to be changed/modified.
Front and rear driveshafts change.
You'll need a SYE too.
Both axles are low pinion, weaker than HP, so axles are maxed out to run 37's.
The good is Waggy fronts are about as close to a bolt in as possible.
An if your planning a SOA?
With 4" lift and SOA your about 10" lift so 37's fit easily.
So if you plan on doing this you would be better off getting a Dana 60 front and 14 bolt rear and spending the same amount of money to build some axles that could handle anything you could throw at them, including a built V8. You have to do all the same amount of work and parts listed above to swap any axle. You might as well spend your $ on a far superior product in the long run.
Your cheap option is the old 8.8 swap for the rear, keep the HP D30 in the front, put the TJ flares you have on and run 35's.
